Leather Clutches with Magdalena Boufal-Nistico of Mekunia!

Hello Makers!

We’re super excited to partner with Magdalena Boufal-Nistico of Mekunia for our April Session! The sun is starting to shine on us all a little more, the weather is heating up little by little, and we’ve got our eyes on a special night out now that we don’t feel like hibernating anymore. Having a night out requires an equally special accessory to make us feel our most amazing.

At this Session, Makers will learn how to saddle stitch a 4” x 8” black clutch, and will be able to personalize the details with colorful embellishments to make it their own. Choose from various color snaps and leather remnants to add personal touches and swag to your bag, including tassels, etc.!!

More about Magdelena of Mekunia…

I was born in Warsaw, Poland. I moved to the States when I was little and lived in Philadelphia for over 27 years before moving to Collingswood. I’ve always loved art and fashion...but my academic background lead me to a career in psychology, for which I acquired two Masters (in Psychology and in Art Therapy). I worked over a decade helping children to better express themselves through art and play. After becoming a mom, I needed a change in my schedule. I was fortunate to have the support to take time off and create my own art. My new path organically lead me to work leather as a medium, and I began experimenting with it using different techniques in non traditional ways (silkscreening, stenciling, and photo transfer techniques). It was then that I began creating leather jewelry/accessories, and formed my company “Mekunia”.

Soap Making with Maureen Sapnar of Hildegard and Blaise | December 8th Option

Hello Makers!

We’re so excited to announce our December Sessions will be hosted by Maureen Sapnar of Hildegard and Blaise! Maureen will be welcoming us into her beautiful (and deliciously smelling) shop on Haddon Ave where we’ll learn the craft of soap making in these special Makers Club Sessions. Because space is limited to just 6 people, we will be holding TWO Sessions in December: Wednesday, December 5th 6:30 - 9:30PM AND Saturday, December 8th 1:00 - 4:00PM.

Maureen Sapnar is the owner Hildegard and Blaise which is a brick and mortar handmade bath, body and candle shop in Haddon Township.  Soap making has been an obsession with her for the past 8 years. Her first lessons in soap making were words from her Grandmother.  Her grandmother would tell her how to save all the meat fats and render them for a full day and then add lye.  Her recipe was very basic but labor intensive.  She wasted nothing. She would labor for hours for the simple things in life.  Maureen once watched her grandmother peeling the skin and black sticky substance from black walnuts for hours to make one cake.   That left a deep impression on the power of using your own hands to create sustaining beauty from very little.

Today, Maureen uses vegetable oils and butters along with lovely scents, clays, botanicals, etc. and has turned a bars of soap into a little bars of art.   She believes a high quality soap is one of life's affordable luxuries. She also learned from her grandmother that you can take simple things from nature and turn then into something beautiful, nourishing and uplifting.  The bonuses are daily self care and soft skin.

Maureen is a certified soap maker through the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetics Guild and serves on the board of the local NJ Chapter.  She has also studied natural perfume making under Charna Ethier of The Providence Perfume Company.  She welcomes you to her studio in Haddon Township for classes such as "The Art of Soap Making".

In this class you will learn about the components of soap making, soap making safety, where to purchase ingredients (even your local supermarket!) and best of all how to make your own excellent handmade soap.  Handmade soaps are great gifts that come from the heart.

You will take home:

  • A wooden soap mold with silicone liner for future soap making

  • An instruction packet with soap making instructions and recipes and information on where to purchase supplies

  • Your soap mold will be filled with your own loaf of soap that you can cut into 8 - 10 soaps (perfect for holiday gift giving - shower gifts - teachers gifts, etc.)

A 15% discount will be offered to students to use the night of class for purchases in the retail shop.

Come and join us to learn the art of soap making!

Warning:  Soap making is addictive!

Please be sure to RSVP in advance as space is limited!

Click "Complete Payment to RSVP" below to sign up and reserve your spot at our DECEMBER 8th SESSION! If you have any trouble, please contact us and we'll help you out.

Hello Makers!

No, it is NOT too early to start thinking about the holidays - especially when you want to make something super special and really give your decorating an upgrade from all the stuff you bought at Target in the clearance aisle last year like us!

We’re going on the road again for this Session, joining Evelyn Taylor in her home studio in Collingswood, where we’ll each get a chance to make as many ceramic ornaments as we can with a pre-rolled slab of clay! We expect most folks will be able to make 3 - 6, depending on the size of the cutters you choose. At this Session, you’ll get the materials and instruction you need to craft beautiful, one-of-a kind ornaments. After the Session, Evelyn will glaze and fire these beauties and they’ll be available for pickup within a few weeks - just in time for the holiday season. We absolutely LOVED bringing Makers Club to Evelyn’s studio back in the summer and can’t wait to head back.

Sessions with Evelyn fill up VERY fast because she’s amazing, so reserve your spot TODAY!!

Please note that this Session is held in a basement studio with a low-ish ceiling. Most workstations are seated, so we encourage tall folks to attend. The entrance to the studio is around back of the home and there are several steps down to enter.

We'll meet at Evelyn’s ceramic studio in Collingswood. Address provided in a confirmation email.

Hello Makers!

Ok, so Shrinky Dinks. This is gonna be weird, right? Actually, no, it’s gonna be awesome! Join your Makers Club friends and make several pieces of stunning jewelry out of the very same material you used to shrink down Smurfs in the 80s. We'll have all the materials you need to create your own unique, somewhat quirky (just like you) necklaces and pendants. This is a Friday night Session, so unless you're like us and have every single Friday night free for the rest of our lives (JK, we're popular), check your calendar for all those social plans and then RSVP ASAP! Feel free to BYOB! This Session will take place at a local Collingswood location, address provided in confirmation sent closer to the Session date.

This Session is a fundraiser for a cause near and dear to the Makers Club founders' hearts! The Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Makers Club is helping to raise money for this amazing local cause. Each Maker who RSVPs for our September Shrinky Dink Jewelry Session will have $5 from their Session fee donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region!

Can't attend this Session and/or want to make an additional donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters? Check out our fundraiser page!

Dyed Tea Towels Session 7/25/18

  • Virginia Avenue Oaklyn, NJ, 08107 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Hello Makers!

We are so ready to add a POP of color to our lives this summer...are YOU with us?! On 7/25, we are putting a trendy twist on the ol' tie-dye method! You will learn NEW and unique dye techniques. Using these techniques, we will add vibrant color to a set of four tea towels made of natural fabric. We will have a variety of dyes to try! Imagine shades of blue, teal, green, purple, pink, orange, red, yellow, and gray. These pretty babies will make an excellent gift set, or new addition to your kitchen or dining room table.

Dye can be messy, so this Session will be outside in Margeaux's backyard and deck! We've held a couple of Sessions at her house before, right by Knight Park in Collingswood. The address will be sent to the group in a confirmation prior to the Session.

Please don't wear your favorite outfit to this session. There's going to be dye around, and dye is sneaky stuff. We will provide gloves to keep our hands dye-free. We will also bring bug spray in case of pests. We got you.

Rope Coiled Vessels Session 4/25/18

Sometimes we like to imagine that we're the kind of people who are so put together, so organized, so on top of things, that we have a place for everything and everything is in it's place. But, um, maybe that's sort of not true and we definitely need more places to put stuff. We're going to bounce right into Spring with a little Spring cleaning and make Rope Coil Vessels! At this Session, you're going to get all the materials you need to make at least one rope coil vessel that will fit nicely on your desk or entrance way table and make you look all fancy, like you ALWAYS had a place to store your desk snacks or throw your keys. You'll have 50 feet of natural cotton rope to work with and a few customization options like pompoms, tassels, and paint.

Please be sure to RSVP in advance as space is limited and we want to make sure we have enough materials for all of our Makers! Click "Complete Payment to RSVP" below to sign up and reserve your spot! If you have any trouble, please contact us and we'll help you out.

Macrame Plant Hanger Session 3/14/18

Hello Makers!

March is almost here and that means...Spring! Let's welcome the next season with some plant action! At this Session, we will be making Macrame Plant Hangers. You'll go home with your very own indoor house cat...err I mean house plant, and your handmade plant hanger. Macrame (noun: mac·ra·mé) is the art of knotting cord or string in patterns to make decorative articles. For this Session, you will learn a couple of basic macrame knot techniques. Once you have these down, you'll be able to make many other macrame projects - from wall art to jewelry, or just tons of plant hangers.

Join us on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. We'll have all the supplies you need to make your very own plant hanger and a variety of color cording to choose from. We'll also supply an indoor plant in a pretty pot. We'll meet at The Quilted Nest, 823 Haddon Ave, Collingswood, NJ 08108.
