We’re so excited to announce our December Sessions will be hosted by Maureen Sapnar of Hildegard and Blaise! Maureen will be welcoming us into her beautiful (and deliciously smelling) shop on Haddon Ave where we’ll learn the craft of soap making in these special Makers Club Sessions. Because space is limited to just 6 people, we will be holding TWO Sessions in December: Wednesday, December 5th 6:30 - 9:30 PM AND Saturday, December 8th 1:00 - 4:00PM.
Maureen Sapnar is the owner Hildegard and Blaise which is a brick and mortar handmade bath, body and candle shop in Haddon Township. Soap making has been an obsession with her for the past 8 years. Her first lessons in soap making were words from her Grandmother. Her grandmother would tell her how to save all the meat fats and render them for a full day and then add lye. Her recipe was very basic but labor intensive. She wasted nothing. She would labor for hours for the simple things in life. Maureen once watched her grandmother peeling the skin and black sticky substance from black walnuts for hours to make one cake. That left a deep impression on the power of using your own hands to create sustaining beauty from very little.
Today, Maureen uses vegetable oils and butters along with lovely scents, clays, botanicals, etc. and has turned a bars of soap into a little bars of art. She believes a high quality soap is one of life's affordable luxuries. She also learned from her grandmother that you can take simple things from nature and turn then into something beautiful, nourishing and uplifting. The bonuses are daily self care and soft skin.
Maureen is a certified soap maker through the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetics Guild and serves on the board of the local NJ Chapter. She has also studied natural perfume making under Charna Ethier of The Providence Perfume Company. She welcomes you to her studio in Haddon Township for classes such as "The Art of Soap Making".
In this class you will learn about the components of soap making, soap making safety, where to purchase ingredients (even your local supermarket!) and best of all how to make your own excellent handmade soap. Handmade soaps are great gifts that come from the heart.
You will take home:
A wooden soap mold with silicone liner for future soap making
An instruction packet with soap making instructions and recipes and information on where to purchase supplies
Your soap mold will be filled with your own loaf of soap that you can cut into 8 - 10 soaps (perfect for holiday gift giving - shower gifts - teachers gifts, etc.)
A 15% discount will be offered to students to use the night of class for purchases in the retail shop.
Come and join us to learn the art of soap making!
Warning: Soap making is addictive!
Please be sure to RSVP in advance as space is limited! Choose from TWO date options below and complete your payment to RSVP.
